MITT MIND TREE: Nurturing Well-Being Through Sensory Design
MITT MIND TREE is a design-led project that explores how sensory experiences—particularly scent—can support emotional well-being, mental balance, and quality of life. Developed at the intersection of design, health, and everyday living, the project responds to the growing need for gentle, non-pharmacological approaches to stress, burnout, and cognitive decline in contemporary society.
At its core, MITT MIND TREE is grounded in the belief that well-being can be cultivated through small, intentional interactions with our environment. By integrating principles of aromatherapy, inclusive design, and emotional design, the project creates tools and experiences that engage the senses in subtle yet meaningful ways. Scent is used not only as an aesthetic element, but as a therapeutic medium—capable of evoking memories, regulating emotions, and fostering a sense of calm and familiarity.
The project encompasses a range of outputs, including therapeutic scent products, sensory workshops, and design toolkits for care environments. Each component is informed by research and real-world observation, particularly within elderly care and dementia contexts. Through this process, MITT MIND TREE translates complex insights into accessible, human-centred solutions that can be integrated into daily life.
Beyond product design, MITT MIND TREE also functions as a platform for awareness and dialogue. It highlights the importance of mental health, sensory well-being, and compassionate care, encouraging a shift toward environments that are not only functional, but also emotionally supportive.
Ultimately, MITT MIND TREE reimagines design as a form of care—an approach that nurtures the mind through sensory connection, and creates spaces where people can pause, reflect, and gently restore themselves.
